Beach Weddings in Hawaii – Beachwed

DIRECTIONS TO HONOLULU COUNTY
Marriage LICENSE BUREAU

(State of Hawaii Department of Health)

From Waikiki by The Bus:

  1. Take the # 2, # 13 or "City Express B" from Kuhio Street in Waikiki towards downtown Honolulu (Westbound).  The driver will assist you in exiting at the Punchbowl Street stop.  The Health Department building faces the intersection with Beretania Street.  You will see the large square State Capitol Building on the left as you approach the bus stop. The Health Department building will be in front of you when you disembark. Look for sign over the doors: Kinau Hale.

  2. Cost: $2.50 cash per adult each way; no change given. The bus stop to return to Waikiki is one long block away on the corner of King Street (one-way Eastbound) & Punchbowl Street, on the other side of the State Capitol Building & Iolani Palace. See bus website here.

From Waikiki by car:

  1. Drive toward the mountain on any cross street (we say, "mauka") to Ala Wai Blvd; it is one way to the left along side a canal (Ewa direction, i.e. towards downtown).

  2. Stay in the center lane until you pass McCully Street (the first bridge over the canal).

  3. The right two lanes turn onto Kalakaua Avenue (the second bridge over the canal), and continue toward the mountain.

  4. Kalakaua Avenue merges into Beretania Street; it is one way to the left. Go left.

  5. Continue toward town, staying in the right lane, until you pass the Honolulu Police Station on your left.

  6. The Health Department (see red circle on map) is across the street from the East lawn of the State Capitol Building, at the corner of Punchbowl Street and Beretania Street (it is a 4-story building called "Hale Kinau" at 1250 Punchbowl Street shown below).

  7. Pay Parking: The entry to the Parking lot is on Punchbowl Street so get in the right lane early to turn right on Punchbowl Street. Go past the building (there's no left turn into the lot) to the break in the median, turn left. A 4-story building with green windows will be on your right. At the Governor's Mansion, go left around the circle, then back to Punchbowl St.; turn right at the stop sign, then right into the Health Dept. lot. The entry is marked with yellow poles. The building is also marked "State of Hawaii Health Department" on its street side. See photo & map below.

From the Honolulu International Airport & points West by car:

  1. Take H-1 freeway Eastbound to Punchbowl (exit 21B). Stay in the right lane onto Punchbowl Street. Cross Vineyard & pass Queen's Hospital Emergency.

  2. Turn right into the Health Dept. lot; the entry is marked with yellow poles. The building is also marked "State of Hawaii Health Department" on the street side. See photo & map below.

TIP: You cannot make a left turn into the Health Dept. from Punchbowl Street going toward the mountains. Just continue in the left lane on Punchbowl to the next lane and turn left. This takes you behind the Governor's Mansion & into the Capitol underground. By the gate, there is a circle where you can turn back to Punchbowl Street; turn right, so you are going toward the ocean. The Health Department will now be on your right across from The Medical Library. (This sounds confusing, I know, but it is really simple.)

get a Hawaii Marriage License in Honolulu at the State Health Dept.

Please drive safe and buckle up; it's the law in Hawaii.
